The number of public school administrators has nearly doubled since the year 2000. In that time, the number of teachers has only increased 10%. Public school systems consistently complain that they are underfunded, and some may be. But a significant part of a school budget is going to higher paid administrators—which is a bureaucratic layer rather than increasing teacher pay and giving them tools to help kids learn. We’ve spent record budgets on educating students in Kentucky public schools—$20k per student, which also has almost doubled since 2000. And academic performance hasn’t improved in the past decade. This why school choice in the form of Amendment 2 is on the ballot on November 5. And why many Kentuckians will be voting yes on Amendment 2.
