Several hundred bills have been proposed in the Kentucky state legislature and the theme of protecting young people is emerging. One bill would prohibit children under the age of 15 to use social media unless they have parental permission. The interesting thing about this bill is it puts the burden on App developers like Apple to verify age. Another bill targets “grooming” which is defined as a “course of conduct directed at a minor that’s intended to establish an emotional connection through manipulation, trust building, or influence.” The bill unanimously passed the Kentucky state house last week.  Another proposal would increase the age of betting on sporting events from 18 to 21. Each of these bills appears to have widespread support.
