Several bills that would protect Kentucky’s kids from explicit content or sexual abuse have been proposed in the Kentucky legislature this session. SB 147 would regulate explicit performances, including drag shows, and prevent them from targeting children as an audience. HB 228 increases the penalties for certain cases of child sex abuse and eliminates the statute of limitations for those crimes. Finally, an amendment for HB 228 would require age-verification for pornography websites. This would prevent minors access. All three of these bills intend to keep Kentucky children safe from sexual exposure and abuse. Contrary to some objections, there’s no First Amendment right to expose minors to immoral sexual content. It’s not a free speech issue; it’s an issue of common sense and protecting vulnerable children.
