The suicide rate in the U.S. is tragically high, and there’s no sign of it decreasing. While there’s a public campaign promoting suicide prevention hotlines, inventors and activists are making it easier to kill oneself. Police in Switzerland recently arrested several people for operating a suicide capsule. Unfortunately, international media coverage has remained neutral and declined to include a hotline recommended by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. This is part of a trend to normalize assisted suicide as just another option one has. Such normalization is horrifying, a fact seemingly lost on the largest media outlets. Human life is a gift from our Creator. When we see suffering people, we offer compassion and care. Not suicide capsules. And this is the message the news media should convey.
