Daniel Wilson of Louisville was sentenced to 5 years in prison for participating in the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. Wilson was one of over 1,000 people who’ve been charged with breaking into the Capitol building that day and trying to disrupt the electoral college certification process for the Presidency. He pled guilty to conspiring against an officer and illegal gun possession. Wilson’s actions were premeditated, as he talked with other protestors in the weeks prior calling for “a symphony of destruction.” This is a sad lesson of how people can get swept up in a crowd. It’s also a lesson as to the consequences of personal actions. Too many Americans like Daniel Wilson are learning the hard way that violence is an unacceptable solution to political differences.
