Last week was National Coming Out Day, and the Louisville Pride Center promoted the day as a community reminder to encourage inclusivity, value diversity, and support LGBT people. The center provides resources for the LGBTQ+ community, including name-change clinics, mental health counseling, and AIDS/HIV testing. While all people are made in the image of God and have intrinsic value and worth, this doesn’t mean that everything that people do is good or healthy or should be celebrated. The LGBT community is organized around behaviors and identities once viewed as unhealthy by society. Now these identities are being celebrated as good. But they don’t answer the questions of what moral limits should human beings live within that lead to lives of flourishing and true happiness.
