The Kentucky Legislature reconvenes today in Frankfort to address important issues. One proposal is to raise the Kentucky minimum wage from $7.25 to $15 an hour. The bill sponsor argues that people should be able to live off their wage without assistance. Republicans believe business owners have a right to determine their own wages in America’s free market system. Interestingly, according to Ziprecruiter, the average starting wage in Kentucky is $14.95 an hour. This means the market is working and has responded without legislation. Republicans are shoring up a framework that leads to growth and higher wages. Their priority this session is to reduce Kentucky’s income tax to 3.5% and it’s expected to pass the Senate this session.
