Kentucky Educational Television is cutting 15 staff members and eliminating an additional 21 positions after Congress cut funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.  Last year, KET’s operating budget was $28.9 million. State general funds comprised 59%, 14% came from grants, and another 14% came from private donors. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting provided 13% of the operating funds to KET. Governor Andy Beshear blamed Congressional Republicans for the cuts. But conservatives ask why any media outlet should receive public funding when individuals and grants can help cover the cost. They also charge there’s a left leaning bias. KET is not going away. In fact it is doing well and it will likely make up funding from existing donors and Grant making foundations.
