Pro-abortion advocates claimed that Kentucky’s ban on abortion prohibits doctors from treating miscarriages, hemorrhaging, ectopic pregnancies, and other life-threatening situations related to pregnancy. Last Thursday, the Kentucky legislature clarified what abortion is, and what it isn’t. It outlined eight procedures that were not considered abortion. Dr. Jeffrey Goldberg, the legislative advocacy chair for Kentucky’s chapter of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists supported the measure. This bill makes clear that Kentucky health professionals should use “reasonable medical judgment” used to save the mother’s life and preserve her health. The bill is clearly pro-woman and brings clarity to health professionals. Governor Beshear has since vetoed it, and the legislature now has a chance to override that veto.
