Attorney General Russell Coleman will now be responsible for prosecuting a select number of gun crimes in Louisville. The goal is to effectively keep violent offenders off the streets of Kentucky’s largest city. In Louisville, homicides are up 5% since last year. This cooperation between a Republican attorney general and Democratic prosecutors is good for Kentucky, since crimes in Louisville affect the whole state. Coleman said that, “There is a sense that … there is not a swift and sure punishment to criminality. That’s what we’re up here to address.” It’s the job of government to apprehend and punish criminals, and violent crime must be countered with swift consequences. Attorney General Coleman is doing his part to make Kentucky safer a place.
