Schools across Kentucky are revising their policies in response to President Trump’s Executive Order targeting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEl) programs. Nearly every one of Kentucky’s 171 public school districts are complying. But unfortunately the states two largest districts—Jefferson and Fayette, which include Louisville and Lexington— are refusing to comply with the order. Some districts grudgingly complied, including Hardin County’s superintendent who signed the compliance form with “great disgust and sadness.” Critics of the order argue that DEl ensures fair treatment and supports marginalized students. However, the Trump administration contends that these programs violated Title IX by promoting preferential treatment to some. The DEl reset in public schools restores the values of merit and equality for everyone under the
law.
