Kamala Harris announced that she wants to oversee the building of three million new homes during her first term if she is elected President. She’s also proposing that the federal government distribute up to $25,000 to first time home buyers. She’s doing this because housing costs have risen with inflation. Harris hasn’t said how much her plan would cost, but it would surely come with a massive price tag. Ironically, the federal government created ridiculous inflation by doing the same thing Harris is proposing—printing more money and giving it away. Affordable housing isn’t simply created through interrupting market forces and government subsidy. Sustainable affordable housing is created through a thriving economy and building modest homes which Americans can afford.
