According to the Kentucky Center for Economic Policy, a childcare apocalypse is coming. They refer to the fact that Kentucky childcare centers have received $1 billion in federal COVID-19 relief funding, but it’s about to run out. They also point out that Kentucky is losing a large number of childcare providers and that it’s really expensive. But is an apocalypse really coming? They argue that unless the government intervenes and subsidizes childcare, working parents will be in a lurch. However, the role of government is not to provide every need but to preserve our freedom so that people can devise solutions that best fit each family’s needs. This is something missing in this discussion, and one reason why a childcare apocalypse isn’t coming anytime soon.
