What if you learned that your teenager was being targeted by Instagram with explicit videos? A Wall Street Journal investigation found that several explicit posts were recommenced to a fake account for a 13 year old. So why is Instagram allowing this to continue, especially after they told Congress back in January that they would create a safer climate for minors? This isn’t the first time Instagram has been caught promoting inappropriate content to teens. According to a 2022 study, teens saw three times as many prohibited posts containing nudity, nearly two times as much violence, and four times as much bullying, compared to those above the age of 30. The latest revelation underscores efforts by the Kentucky legislature to regulate social media that normalizes anti-social and inappropriate material to children.
