Outbreaks of political violence have become disturbingly common in today’s polarized climate. Last week, the home of Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro was set on fire, and several Tesla dealerships have been vandalized because the founder Elon Musk is working in the Trump administration. Such violence is appalling and must be condemned. Yet legacy media coverage is selective depending on the perpetrator or victim. A recent CNN special suggested that political violence is largely driven by conservative views, linking election skepticism to the January 6 Capitol riot. This one-sided portrayal ignores left-wing violence and rhetoric. Political violence, regardless of the source, should always be condemned. Legacy media’s selective coverage only deepens division, making it harder for the nation to heal.
