There’s a move in the Kentucky state legislature to make interrupting the legislative process a crime. State Rep. John Blanton (R-Salyersville) introduced HB 626 in response to transgender activists who attempted to thwart the House floor proceedings last year. We’ve seen this kind of incivility in Tennessee where protesters interrupted proceedings after a school shooting. And January 6th protestors tried to halt certification of the 2020 presidential results by storming the U.S. Capitol. This bill in the Kentucky legislature pushes back against mob rule. This is because we can only solve our differences through dialogue, debate, and proper procedures, not through violences or unruly disruption. Civility and order are always better than mob rule. HB 626 passed the House and is now headed to the Senate.
