A bill proposed in the Kentucky legislature limits the use of technology that can be used for spying on people. The bill limits the police from collecting data by drones and cameras. It also also bans the possible implantation of microchips under the skin and it makes creating deep fakes a felony. This is where computer generated images make people say things or do things that they never did or said. Bill sponsor Rep. John Hodgson (R-Fisherville) said, “This is really focused purely on you as an individual and someone trying to track you. And that’s just not appropriate unless it’s a law enforcement reason, or a warrant, or some kind of legitimate business reason.” Many of these technologies are already being exploited by foreign governments and SB 45 wisely seeks to uphold personal privacy and our constitutional freedoms.
