Several student groups at Harvard University sparked outrage after they issued a statement supporting Palestinian attacks against the State of Israel. The students say they hold “the Israeli regime entirely responsible for all unfolding violence.” In all of their learning, the Harvard students missed the lesson on compassion and decency. When is it ever okay to cheer for brutal terrorist organizations like Hamas? Such anti-Semitism isn’t limited to campus. Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) accused Israel of creating “the suffocating, dehumanizing conditions that can lead to resistance.” What Tlaib missed is that murder is in a category apart from resistance, and Hamas committed the ultimate act of dehumanization. Sadly, our only response can be to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and for those who lost loved ones.
