Last week the federal government shut down. Democrats in the U.S. Senate effectively killed the continuing resolution to keep the government funded at previous levels. Even though it was Democrats that shut the government down, poles show that the public blames Republicans. Of course, Republicans have voted to shut the government down in the past—but not this time. The sticking point for Democrats was that they wanted Obamacare continued. Republicans said that it needed it was not the time to do that. President Trump is threatening to cut the federal workforce. Clearly many issues are at stake with the continuing resolution. But now thousands of federal workers are furloughed and it’s uncertain if the parties can come to an agreement.
