Friday was the Fourth of July-a time to celebrate the many blessings our nation offers. But while fireworks, hotdogs, and baseball marked the day for some, others were feeling a little down. A new Gallup poll found that national pride has slipped to an all time low in America. The study found that only 58% of U.S. adults say they are “extremely” or “very proud” to be an American-down nine points from last year. It’s likely that the extreme partisanship in politics has contributed to this drop-off. But the American ideal is not embodied in a particular party, but in the idea that all men are created equal under God with unalienable rights—and that is something we should all be proud of.
