Last week the entire Dallas Cowboy football team, together with team owner Jerry Jones, locked arms and knelt before the performance of the national anthem. This was on nationally televised Monday Night Football and its angered what many fans see as disrespect for the flag and our nation. On one hand the players have the right to protest. They're given that kind of freedom here. But team owners also have a right to fire players. And fans have a right to not watch or attend games. We need to remember that sports are a diversion from politics and when sports are unnecessarily politicized people get angry. In fact, many now tuning out. There's a time and place to make political points, but as the NFL is discovering, it’s not on the football field.
