There’s a tense debate over what kind of books should be offered to kids at the Daviess County Public Library. A state representative weighed in and simply commented that his Christian values help guide his thinking. The comment drew harsh criticism. One person questioned how could he represent his Muslim, Buddhist, in Hindu constituents. Truth is, is that we all have a worldview and set of values that guide and temper our thinking. Now I know this person personally and the ideals that he inspires to our ideals that benefit all of Daviess county— loving your neighbors yourself; seeking the good of the city, being charitable to all, even his opponents—these are all good values. And that shouldn’t be controversial.
