The Colorado Supreme Court dismissed a lawsuit against baker Jack Phillips because he refused to bake a cake celebrating a gender transition. The Court ruled on procedural grounds, but it’s still a victory for Phillips who has faced three lawsuits in twelve years for refusing to bake cakes with anti-Christian messages. He has even been exonerated by the US Supreme Court, yet activists continue to target him. This is a far cry from LGBT activists who once said “live and let live” under the banner of tolerance. But such tolerance hasn’t been extended to Phillips. As Phillips’ lawyer said, “Free speech is for everyone.” And compelled speech is unAmerican, as the courts have consistently ruled. Hopefully, Phillips can finally move on from the court battles and bake cakes in peace.
