House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) announced that bathroom use in the Capitol building will be limited based on biological gender. Common sense, isn’t it? But this has become an issue because Democrats and their first transgender member of Congress are making it an issue. Pushing gender ideology and reordering moral norms contributed to many Democratic losses on November 5. Unfortunately, legacy media outlets are casting congressional Republicans as intolerant and bigoted. But is it intolerant to maintain women’s safety and respect their private spaces in government buildings? The idea of women’s bathrooms, locker rooms, and even sports teams are humane and good. On the other hand, pretending that men can be women and allowing them to use women’s facilities undermines women’s safety and our collective social responsibility toward women.
