The United Kingdom is closer to legalizing assisted suicide after the House of Commons passed a bill allowing the terminally-ill (who will die within six months) to seek help to end their own lives. Assisted suicide has made headway in Europe and the United States. Opponents point out abuses in nations. In the Netherlands, the vulnerable—with debilitating illnesses or handicaps—have been put to death without their consent. This is the slippery slope that pro-life advocates have pointed to. Once we take life and death decisions into our hands and play God, killing another human being becomes easy and routine. That’s a place that no civilization should want to be in, because God is the author of our lives and determines the number of our days.
