Gov. Andy Beshear blamed Kentucky Republicans last week for wasting time on “culture war type issues.” The comments were made on the heels of the Alabama Supreme Court ruling that said that human embryos are human beings. Beshear called the Alabama Supreme Court ruling “horrendous.” and said that he is “100 percent” for protecting access to in vitro fertilization. Beshear denounced “extremism” that interferes with human reproductive. But is it extreme to say that human life isn’t mere property? Beshear misses the irony that while on one hand he values the children born out of in vitro, yet condemns the idea that those same children were human beings when they were tiny embryos. Perhaps it’s more extreme to say that one human being holds the power of life and death over another human being, even while it’s still an embryo.
