Amendment 1 is on Kentucky’s ballot this year and it would revise the state constitution, requiring voters to be American citizens. Sounds like common sense but its not part of the state constitution. Kentucky’s elected official should be elected by Kentucky citizens. Some say it’s unnecessary and is anti-immigrant. But some, like New York City’s mayor, pushed a law allowing non-citizens to vote. The New York Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional. Secretary of State Michael Adams said, “I’m voting for Amendment One to make our state constitution explicit on this point and keep Kentucky a national leader on election integrity.” Kentuckian citizens should be the only one’s allowed to vote in Kentucky elections and kudos to Adams for making election integrity a top priority.
