The 2024 Democratic National Committee wrapped up on Thursday, and abortion rights was a central issue throughout. A special segment on day two featured two Kentuckians on the main stage: Hadley Duvall and Gov. Andy Beshear. Duvall introduced Beshear, and Beshear called Duval “one of the bravest people [he’s] ever met.” This wasn’t because she gave up her life for another, but rather because she’s using her voice to promote the ending the lives of tiny members of the human community. Beshear quoted Scripture in a call for political unity. Interestingly, he didn’t resort to Scripture when talking about the sanctity of life. Beshear did say something important however: that “how we treat each other transcends our party affiliation.” As divisive and radical as his positions are, this is something that we should all agree on.
