Governor Andy Beshear joined several Democratic governors in condemning President Trump’s decision to deploy National Guard troops to U.S. cities in support of Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations. Beshear called the move “un-American.” He claimed it politicizes the military and undermines local authority. However, ICE is being sent to cities is to uphold immigration law and in many cases ICE agents are being attacked and threatened by thugs. For too long, major cities have refused to uphold immigration laws and have become sanctuaries for illegal immigrants. While Beshear’s comments reflect concern about federal overreach, this debate exposes a deeper divide over national sovereignty and the rule of law.
