President Trump signed an executive order to cut federal funding to National Public Radio. The administration argues that NPR is a decidedly liberal outlet, promoting a left-wing political bias. NPR allies argue it has a long-standing right to federal funding, but opponents like Ky Congressman James Comer say that NPR shouldn’t be funded because of their far-left political bias. Comer said that NPR has abused their privilege and specifically criticized their failure to properly cover the origins of COVID-19 and a House investigation into the Biden family to which NPR CEO Katherine Maher admitted in a Congressional hearing. Though NPR arguably provides a benefit to some of the public, their lack of balance doesn’t serve the broader public very well—and that has consequences.
