We all know that the federal government has a spending problem. According to a July House Budget Committee report, the United States “will add $2.1 trillion to our national debt every year for the next decade.” This is over $268 million every hour. U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) issued his annual Festivus Report, telling us where our money is going: $10,000 to ice-skating drag queens; over $400,000 to study lonely, starved rats; and nearly $5 million on Ukrainian influencers. Such fiscal irresponsibility can be discouraging, but—in the end—the American people have something of a tool when it comes to reigning in government spending, and we call this tool elections.
