Disney announced that it’s dropping a transgender storyline from one of its new Pixar kids’ shows, “Win or Lose.” CEO Bob Iger said that Disney is moving away from controversial political themes. Iger said that “Infusing messaging is not what we’re up to. We need to be entertaining.” This is the right impulse. So was Disney’s decision to cease promoting controversial ideology to children. But we should ask why Disney thought a transgender character in a children’s movie was a good idea in the first place. Children are confused enough as they try to figure out the world. And they shouldn’t be confused anymore with inappropriate gender ideology from a once-trusted children’s entertainment outlet. Hopefully other studios will follow Disney’s lead.
