Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, addressed the Democratic National Convention. In her speech, she accused Republicans of “gutting funding for public schools.” This was a veiled reference to school choice efforts like Kentucky’s Amendment 2, which would empower parents with more options for the best education fit for their children. School choice is an important distinction between Democrat candidate Kamala Harris and Republican candidate Donald Trump. An interesting contradiction arose during the DNC as a major theme and Democrat talking point is that they are the party of freedom and choice. But it’s ironic that they’re committed to abortion on demand—which doesn’t give the unborn child a choice. At the same time, they’re vigorously opposed to parents who want school choice options for their children.
