The University of Kentucky is closing its Office of Institutional Diversity. Earlier this year, the General Assembly investigated DEI practices and proposed legislation to nix DEI programs. UK will end mandatory diversity training and diversity statements for new hires. DEI practices are controversial because their focus on external characteristics instead of character and achievement. DEI is racially charged and discriminatory. State Senator Mike Wilson (R-Bowling Green), who led the legislative efforts, said, “A true elimination of these DEI policies in our public universities will end the division they promote, and allow our colleges and universities to be the true bastion of free thought we need them to be.” Because of the move, more tax dollars are freed up to be spent on hiring teachers and better educating students.
