A professor at Bellarmine University in Louisville has been fired for his comments about the attempted assassination of former President Trump. The instructor said that he wished the shooting was successful. Bellarmine fired English instructor John James, shortly after the appalling comment. Violent rhetoric is on the rise from the education establishment, and much of it goes unreported. Of course, it should not take us by surprise that some have taken those rash statements literally. But we should expect better from our state’s top educators. This is the latest example of the brokenness of our politics and a reminder that we do not settle our political disagreements through violence, but rather at the ballot box.
