A joint committee of the Kentucky General Assembly met last week to learn about diversity, equity, and inclusion programs at Kentucky’s universities. Leaders from NKU and Morehead State downplayed the role of DEI at their schools. But a conservative expert testified that public universities have abused their power to promote DEI programs. Some implement diversity quotas for their students and faculty; Kentucky State had to alter their recruitment for Hispanic students to meet requirements. And UK requires course material on “unconscious bias” and “micro-aggressions,” as well as making DEI part of the interview process for new staff. DEI has been exposed as divisive and punitive. And Kentucky’s General Assembly is preparing to push back against the DEI regime.
