Kentucky’s 2024 primary is over, and the take away from the evening is that principled conservatives won in Republican primaries. This was despite two super PACs spending well over $1 million to unseat a half dozen incumbent legislators in the Kentucky House. The most liberal Republican – Killian Timoney – lost his seat by a 3 to 1 margin, even though over $300,000 was spent on him. The losers in the election were Churchill Downs, the teacher’s union, and the Kentucky Chamber, where half of their endorsed candidates lost. The lesson is that big money and influential groups don’t always win. It was the voters who had the last word, and principled Republicans won. Stay tuned for the fall election to see the final results.
