Now that John Calipari has moved on from coaching the Kentucky Basketball team, there’s a real opportunity for the program to hit the reset button. The fanbase is certainly excited with thousands crowding into Rupp Arena last week to welcome the new head coach, alumnus Mark Pope, who used to play for the Wildcats. Kentucky fans expect winning every year, but it’s important to remember that a successful program must have a solid foundation. In fact, character and integrity must be at the forefront for any truly successful team. Coach Pope is a Mormon, and while he’s not a Christian, his religion is known for high moral and ethical standards. If he brings this to the basketball court, we can expect a team with strong character which is something all Kentuckians can be proud of.
