A bill introduced in the Kentucky state Senate proposes to restrict sexually oriented business across the Commonwealth Kentucky. One provision in particular restricts drag performances in front of children. I had a chance to testify on this bill, and so did the drag community. In fact, they got a lot of attention when they made the case that this is a free speech issue and such a bill would stifle artistic expression. But should children be allowed to see sexually explicit drag shows? That’s the question at hand. We don’t allow children in the strip clubs or porn shops. So why should they be allowed into sexually explicit drag shows? That’s a question that the state Senate and the rest of the legislature will answer in the near future.
