The political action committee for Jefferson County Public School teachers is spending $100,000 in support of Republican state House candidates this year. The teacher’s union has nearly always supported Democratic candidates, but it’s now focusing on Republican races, calculating that it’s more politically effective to influence the Republican majority than the Democratic minority. In all four cases, the PAC is supporting the more moderate Republican candidate in the primary. A big issue is school choice and the teachers union has opposed it because they think it will hurt public schools. However, education freedom focuses on the child and what’s best for them to thrive. And this is something everybody, including political candidates should be in favor of.
