DEI stands for diversity, equity, and inclusion. It’s  an initiative that’s been a fixture in many of our colleges and universities for the past dozen years. The goal is to combat racism and ugly bigotry and make university campuses inclusive and welcoming for all, regardless of race, ethnicity, or gender. But one of the problems with DEI is that it focuses on equality of outcomes instead of equal opportunity for all. This has led to racial and gender quotas, viewpoint discrimination on campuses, particularly targeting conservative professors and students. When equity is elevated over equality of opportunity, competency is sacrificed and resentment ensues. Three bills in Kentucky state legislature push back against DEI abuse appear to have momentum this session.
