America is facing record homelessness, as more than 650,000 Americans don’t have a place to call home. And the problem will likely be aggravated but a surge of illegal immigrants at our southern border. Some government agencies say that lack of affordable housing is the biggest reason for increased homelessness. And they’re calling for government intervention. But in many cases, homelessness results from addiction, mental breakdown, and dissolution of family, which was the original safety net from homelessness. Whatever the cause, the compassionate society cares for the most vulnerable. A practical way is for the church to look out for the homeless in their community to minister to their needs. After all, we celebrated the birth of Christ yesterday, who didn’t have a home, and yet came to give us an eternal dwelling with him.
Yet, KY wants to make 2nd offense homelessness a felony. Locking up the homeless for years does not help them or their families. Safer KY Bill will increase homelessness dramatically and make rapid housing programs out of reach.
