Gov. Andy Beshear was inaugurated for a second term as Kentucky’s chief executive. He held up love, compassion, and empathy as the right responses to political division. Beshear said that we can achieve “our collective dream of a true and better Kentucky,” grounded in his faith. The governor’s words were admirable, but his first term policies did not live up to them. Closing churches does not reflect a strong commitment to religious freedom or importance of Christian liberty. Promoting gender ideology in schools and misrepresenting pro-life views don’t support families, nor do they find political common ground. The Governor spoke of the hope of eternal life with reference to his deceased predecessors. Let’s hope that his second term is marked by an awareness of his and each of our accountability to God and a commitment to representing values grounded in eternal truths.
