Toy stores in California must now include a gender-neutral section or face a fine. A bill signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom in 2021 requires stores to designate gender-neutral toys “regardless of whether they have been traditionally marketed for either girls or for boys.” The original sponsor of the bill said, “We need to stop stigmatizing what’s acceptable for certain genders and just let kids be kids.” But letting kids be kids means letting boys be boys and girls be girls, doesn’t it? Creating an artificial “gender-neutral” category is another imposition on the freedom of California’s business owners. It also enforces radical gender ideology, which violates basic moral and biological realities.
