Gov. Andy Beshear’s recent campaign ad attacked Daniel Cameron for his consistent pro-life views. The ad argues that Cameron’s opposition to abortions in the cases of rape and incest is “extreme” and “dangerous.” Rape and incest are illegal, and perpetrators should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. But criticizing a full-orbed pro-life position based on horrible situations is cynical. Beshear is not building a culture of life but instead building fear into a political campaign to discredit the pro-life position. Kentucky is a pro-life state that protects and cares for the most vulnerable among us. The outcome on this election may be a referendum on whether that remains the case.
