Violent crime is sadly common in many American cities, and country music star Jason Aldean is in the news for his top of the charts song, “Try That In a Small Town.” Aldean laments over crime and disrespect of law enforcement and says that the chaos happening in many of our major cities won’t be tolerated in America’s rural communities. Of course, valuing the law and preserving order shouldn’t be a partisan issue. But critics are chafing at what they say is vigilantism promoted by Aldean’s message. However the song is interpreted, God has established government for our good. The social ethos has broken down respect for law and order in some cities. And our longing for safety has resulted in pushback against mob violence. And Aldean’s song is a result of that.
