The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in June that President Biden’s $430 billion student loan forgiveness plant was unconstitutional. The Court said that Congress, not the President, has the authority to forgive the debt. Even so, that hasn’t dissuaded Biden from trying again. He’s recently announced a new plan to forgive $39 billion of student loan debt. But Biden’s latest move is more a political stunt than a solution to the problem. College costs have spiraled because of new buildings, spiraling administrative roles, huge corresponding salaries, and prioritizing DEI initiatives. If the government wanted to really help incoming students, it would focus on better education, reduce unnecessary expenses, and help incoming students avoid such massive debt in the first place.
