Republican state leaders from across the nation, including here in Kentucky, have passed laws which protect young children against harmful and life-altering hormones and sex-change surgeries. But the Republican governor of Nevada is taking a different approach: he’s supporting gender transitions. Last week, Gov. Joe Lombardo signed a bill requiring insurance companies to cover these procedures for adults and children. The only limiting provision is that they may require parental consent or a psychological recommendation when minors are involved. One thing Gov. Lombardo made clear is that gender ideology cuts across party lines. Even though this latest policy undermines human flourishing—voters may eventually veto his decision when they have their say at the ballot box the next time he’s up for re-election.
