Olivia Krolczyk, a student at the University of Cincinnati, recently used the term “biological woman” in an assignment. Until recently, there was nothing unusual about using that term. But it got her a failing grade this semester. Professor Melanie Rose Nipper insists that freedom of speech in the classroom does not extend to “outdated terminology” which “intentionally or unintentionally, [participates] in a systemic harm of some kind.” Nipper also expresses great concern about academic freedom policies, which, in her opinion, endanger her ability to teach. This is quite ironic coming from a professor who limits the free expression of a conservative student. While the left accuses conservatives of right-wing authoritarianism, liberal professors are giving abundant examples of perpetrating this in the classroom.
