College campuses were once considered a place of free inquiry. But too often, conservative views have been shut down. Conservative students, and their ideas that go against left-leaning campus norms, are often shut down. However, a bill introduced in the Kentucky House would shore up the free speech rights of all students. If passed, public postsecondary institutions would not be able to restrict, regulate, or punish protected speech or conduct off-campus. And student groups would be treated fairly when it comes to accessing campus spaces or funds based on their viewpoints. This is a much-needed bill that benefits all students and the free exchange of ideas and viewpoints on Kentucky’s college campuses.
